It is the policy of the DoDEA to neither encourage nor discourage DoD sponsors from home schooling their minor dependents. DoDEA recognizes that home schooling is a sponsor's right and can be a legitimate alternative form of education for the sponsor's dependents. The Military Home Educators Network is a Christian support group of military home schoolers from all across the Island of Oahu, Hawaii. Offers monthly meetings at Hickam Air Force Base.

The Army School Liaison Officer serves as the installation subject matter expert (SME) for youth education/school transition issues. They inform and advise commanders and parents on student education/transition issues, promote parent involvement in youth education and collaborate with local schools and the installation. Their goal is to provide a wide variety of programs and services that help ensure a “level playing field” for Army youth transitioning among installations and school systems. Their strong partnership with the Department of Education also helps to improve the various Hawaii public schools that military children attend.
